When scrubbing frame by frame in Premiere Pro we do hear the sound of each corresponding frame. In order to turn it off, in case it is getting on our nerves:
- go to Premiere Pro (for OS X) or Edit (for Windows) and select Preferences;
- under Preferences select the Audio tab;
- then un-tick the Play audio while scrubbing option. Tick that option to bring it back.
This option will change the behaviour in both the source and in the record monitor.
Create a shortcut
That works great but might be a bit cumbersome if we repeat the action regularly during our editing session, so let us create a short cut for it:
- Go to Premiere Pro (for OS X) or Edit (for Windows) and select Keyboard Shortcuts…;
- In the new Keyboard Shortcuts dialog box enter Toggle Audio During Scrubbing in the search bar;
- select the aforesaid option shown in the command column and press Edit, at the bottom of the dialog box;
- press the key(s) you want to choose as shortcut.1
- click Ok to quit the window and apply the shortcut.
There is a little bit of a drawback here: the shortcut works only once you have pressed the space bar; the option will not toggle unless you play the video first.
